NEW PROCEDURE FOR ENTERING THE BUILDING The main entry gate for volunteers arriving to help serve the hungry is now controlled by a security system to provide improved safety for volunteers and staff. The keypad at the gate has a button for contacting the volunteers and staff in the building who will “buzz” first-time or occasional volunteers and open the gate. Codes for staff and regular volunteers have been assigned so they can proceed once they’ve entered the code (followed by the # sign). The gate does not close automatically so it is necessary to pull the gate shut. When leaving the building, press the button mounted on the wall of the trash receptacle area to the right to release the locked gate. We ask for your patience as we adapt to this new procedure. It may take a minute or two for the person inside to respond because things can get busy at times. We think added security is worth the wait. We also ask that if you are one of the “gate-keepers,” or happen to see that someone is seeking entry on the camera, that you try to buzz them as soon as possible, once you have determined that they are here to volunteer. We are grateful for all the support we receive from volunteers – we could not exist without it. The safety of everyone who comes to serve is a top priority and is the reason we have implemented this new procedure. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we go forward.
